A Dream Visit to Rocky Auto

We decided to head out of Nagoya and start heading as far as we could north. On the way out of, just on the outskirts of the city, is Rocky Auto, it was getting late, but we decided to change it anyways before it got dark.

Again as we mentioned rocking up to these places uninvited is completely hit or miss, and you never really know what way someone will take you. We always approach with caution, using our best piece of Google translate and hope for the best.

This is the scene right off of the street!

This place was out in the middle of rice fields. It’s pretty surreal to see farmland surrounding a priceless selection of Japanese muscle.

As you pull up outside, there are all sorts of legendary stuff, from Skylines to Fairlady Z’s.

Rocky Auto is famous for lumping modern engines into old school chassis to make them more reliable. It’s been a place we have wanted to visit for a long time, so we figured why not. It might be now or never.

We ventured inside and sparked up a chat with the lady working there. The owner saw us chatting, and we managed to hit it off. He opened the side door and let us into the back to see the lineup.

Eye candy with this 2JZ fitted with 4A-GE ITB’s.

Check this tiny S20 engine!

I feel like I’m repeating myself when I say this was a sensory overload, but once again, we went from zero to 1000. You couldn’t have asked for a better view, 240zs and C10 skylines and classic metal as far as the eye could see in all sorts of configurations, one of the most spectacular views I’ve ever witnessed ill take that to the grave.

What a view!

We didn’t notice the car due to everything going on, and I think it offended him a little as we couldn’t comprehend the collection. After a couple of minutes, I think he was fed up with us and escorted us out the door.

They restore many old z’s and more recently have been building replica 2000gts for customers with modern powerplants known as 3000GT’s.

Only when we left did we realize what we had just witnessed, the reproduction of 2000GT’s known as 3000gt’s with a James bond remake. We couldn’t fathom what we were looking at and overlooked so many things. I can’t even imagine how much his premises is worth. Rocky Auto was another crazy scenario and a great end to another epic day of car hunting.

An overwhelming selection of cars all under one roof.

Outside this S30 was enjoying the sunset.

This was a magical moment.

This area was such an epic spot to watch a sunset. This was a little slice of heaven. The gold reflection against that Kenmeri! Il never forget it,

I’d be happy with anything from this lot; Rocky Auto was a classic Japanese car enthusiast wet dream.

This little Sunny Truck was fantastic.

A Fairlady Z awaiting a restoration…

Golden moments, this was one we will take to the grave.

I wonder if she likes Skyines?

This was the view as we were leaving, casually spread out on a country road.

We stopped at a truck stop down the road to gather ourselves.

That night we booked a dodgy hotel to get some rest.

I laid out all the stickers again to appreciate what we had collected so far on the journey.

Flip wanted an early night, so I found myself walking around the hotel with Reuben looking at all the strange stuff we spotted.

This place was interesting…

It was insanely warm outside with a thunderstorm in the distance, so we grabbed a beer and went for a walk.

The streets were deserted. It was delightful, the polar opposite to most of the other towns and cities we had been to so far on the trip.

We walked to this 7 Eleven and sat outside processing our day of madness.

Our room was traditional, to say the least.

Reuben booked some dodgy accommodation on Booking, which looked like an old hospital converted into a hostel; it made for an entertaining evening. Better than sleeping in the van, I guess, just about!

Another epic day of car hunting complete!
