Liberty Walk: A Private Tour

We were heading back into Nagoya and felt we couldn’t pass up an opportunity to Liberty Walk. The shop has seen a massive amount of success in the western world in recent times, and many people would say wats the point in visiting these shops? They’ve seen enough coverage over the last few years. We are fans of the stuff this shop puts out.

I love what these guys do, sure it’s not to everyone’s taste, but they have been doing whatever they want with no rules to whatever cars they want for the last ten years, and it’s caused quite the stir online.

Japan is such a conservative country, so expressing yourself with the automobile is something they have been doing for a long time, the owner Kato san, is applying what he grew up with, Kaido racer influence and reimagining it for modern cars,

The cars that stood out back in the day are Kenmeris C110, GC10’s, bluebirds, S30’s and similar. You can see how much he loves that culture and everything surrounding it with the bikes and cars they have collected and built over the years.

They have the money these days to apply the same styling to pretty much anything he wants. Japan has always been about hacking up and modifying cars, especially the culture he grew up around, cutting arches, fitting big flares and big wheels, and added crazy paint flash jobs.

Everything about Liberty walk is almost, dare I say, Kaido racer influenced for modern times, messing with stuff that’s considered off-limits and generating attention. Again it’s not to everyone’s taste, but that’s the way I’ve seen it over the years, and it’s not something id aspire to do personally.

Still, I can appreciate what they have done. It’s hard these days to be creative with the modified car scene and all this over fender stuff. Love it or hate; this style has brought another element to the current stage.

I know it’s been watered down by YouTubers and IG builds and might look dated down the line, but Japan has fitted aero and body kits to stuff for thirty-plus years, and now Kato and the team are doing it to supercars. Good for them

How cool is this bus?

Kaido influence on a charger!

I’m a car fan and seeing mega arched Lambos and Ferraris sitting on the street in Nagoya. I must admit this stuff looked insane, and I can understand why they do this, to stand out and make a statement like people have been doing with flares and big arches for decades.

A few of their cars that broke the web were on display, the C10 four-door, the Miura replica in the back, fuck the Advan livery looks so cool on these cars.

After a few minutes of drooling on this stuff, one of the workers asked us to jump in the van and go check out their other workshop.

Same deal again. Japan is doing its own thing with cars. It was madness; then they brought us to their workshop clubhouse, where you can see where the inspiration for their newer stuff comes from.

Fairlady’s, which you could argue, should be messed with these days. Still, I’m glad to see these cars wear that iconic look, same with the rest of the stuff. Not sure why they brought us to see all this; maybe they saw the big camera setup, and though we were somebodies, either way, we were blown away once again by this epic tour of their facilities.

An RX3 awaiting arch treatment.

It was so cool to finally get a look at their Miura…

Bozo bikes and Kaido racers everywhere! Man, this was heaven. Just like the owner at Noby Booth, it was nice to see them open their arms to us and invite us to see their collection of prized possessions; we couldn’t have been luckier, charming people. And very unexpected.
