Purchasing Irelands Cheapest 4×4

It would appear that im a sucker for a bargain; somehow, Ills see past all the imperfections and think of the potential fun that can be had with something. I’ve done it with the 86, and I’ve done it with other cars over the years and items that I’ve wanted; when the opportunity presents itself, I’ll end up buying the item and justifying why I’ve needed it for years and time again to make myself feel better. I always had a thing for Jimny, at least for the last ten years. My friend Dave has always talked about his one and how it’s probably one of the most capable 4x4s out there. He’s also the guy who invited me that the Prus behind this Jimny is an excellent car, and he wasn’t wrong; I bought that from Dave at the start of Covid on a whim for work, and it turned out to be the best purchase ever.

Josh’s father had this Jimny sitting out in the back garden. It looked rough, but I only really wanted this for the 4×4 capabilities and not the looks; if we could make it look more relaxed, I was on board. Josh’s family were leaving the house, so Jimny had to go. I got 550 euros, and Josh loaded it up on the trailer destined for the shed.

When we got it back, I realised it was a little rougher around the edges than I had hoped, but it wasn’t a complete write-off; it just needed some welding, a wash and some work. I make it sound so simple when, in fact, it’s constantly a little more miserable. The plan is to lift this, get some big offroad wheels and see if we can have some fun in the surrounding mountains with Dave and others.

The inside is stripped bare, with the apparent speed holes which need to be covered. Im going to leave the interior out of this. I want it to be as essential as possible.

After a proper scrub, it didn’t look as shabby, to be honest; we brought it around to show Flip. My plan for this when we get around to it is to keep it very simple: some Japanese wheels, maybe different bumpers, a lift kit, and get it out where I can get stuck. The plan is to make this happen in 2024, as the AE86 was primarily consumed in 2023.

Silly poses with this foolish bit, hopefully enjoyable decisions

It’s true. It seems I can’t eat from and lust after Misery. But which car enthusiast doesn’t? More on this thing soon.
