Quarter Panel Repair on the AE86
The quarter panel repair was one of the most deflating parts of the 86 build. I knew I was in great hands with the lads, but it felt like a massive step back; we had got the car into the primer, and progress was chugging along, but it was utterly overwhelming to see the entire side of the vehicle hacked off. As much as it bummed me out knowing this needed tackling, I didn’t let it get to me.
Thankfully, this gloom did not last long, and watching Tio work his magic made me realise I could have been around better people for the job. I think the whole thing took less than a week, with a few hours being thrown at it here and there. Before I knew it, the back end looked like nothing ever happened. Truly fantastic work from lads who are at the top of their game.
The lads pushed me to do this repair, and im delighted they wanted to proceed. The metal was beyond saving, and they didn’t want to throw any filler in after all the effort; the hard way is usually the right way, and the results here speak for themselves; the back end is like new! Enjoy some photos from this week where the guys hacked off the back quarter, replaced it, and finished it in bare metal. Amazing.
