I’ve split the Final bout photos into two posts because there are many. I enjoy photos, and this blog has become a place for pictures and little writing, which is good as my images are better than how I construct a sentence. I will start here on Friday evening when we arrive at USAir in Shawano. Being Irish, the first thing I have to comment on is the weather; that perfect midwest summer sun was working wonders for anything I pointed the camera at. I wish we got more of those golden hour days in Ireland; regardless, please enjoy the selection of photos from the first night we got to FinalBout, as I feel some of these photos will be a good inspiration for others on how to approach a chassis, a lot of these guys have it figured out. It was great to see this stuff all packed into one venue.
Once we got back to Tokyo, the most important thing on the list was to slam the Probox for the upcoming event Andrew had organised for us. He had gathered a few people to throw the first-ever Juicebox meet in Japan, which was insane.
This episode is packed with unique cars, a wild Japanese Altezza Demo car survivor, a timeless Evo III and the Perfect 500bhp FD RX7. Enjoy a little slice of the madness hidden away in the rural Irish countryside.
Let’s get stuck right back into our walk around Japfest 2017. I can’t stress how good this event was, it’s a clear indication that we are out of the dark times. The car scene is booming once again.
This article was lost when the website went under. I managed to recover most of it and felt it was right to get these photos up here from what was easily one of the best Irish car shows to date. This will be coming in two parts as there is a huge photo dump with this feature. I’ve left the original writing intact so it might sound a little weird as those were supposed to be posted back in 2017.
This has been a fast year. It seems not so long ago when we covered the Annual Toyota meet in Cork last year. I really enjoyed this meet because you never know what comes out of the wood work. Even the machine we came down in is worthy of a picture, (TRD Camry which you see here). You can also see Flip using his best shammy cloth to clean the flies.
Its hard to think that another year of Prodrift has passed us so quickly. To be fair we were off to a fantastic start with Ennis weather wise. The typical Irish early good weather which results in a summer of rain as punishment, this didnt stop competition and even though Juicebox didnt make it to two of the events the finale in Mondello more than made up for it.
What I love about Japfest is the amount of racing and activities that are on throughout the day as well as the show thats inside the paddock. It can be a somewhat overhwleming task to cover everything as you have time attack, Prodrift, drag racing and track time on all at the same time. There’s something for everyone.
I see this Altezza quite a lot and this time had the camera to take a snap. There’s just something so right about it being yellow and having those Advan Model 5’s poke out like that on the rear.
It was 5am on a Saturday morning and the phone was vibrating with a text from Martin Ffrench. Walking out of the house and seeing his Altezza all loaded up on the trailer looking gleaming and ready for action was enough to wake anyone up. The car was ready for the first round of Prodrift which was to be held in Ennis Co. Clare. Hopes of a dry weekend slowly started to fade as we made our way through the Tipperary countryside and darkness started to disappear and reveal some horrible Irish clouds . This was looking to be another typical weekend just like the one at Ennis back in 09. To our surprise we drove right through the rain and out the other side…. mother nature was down for some drifting on that weekend and gave us Ireland some of the best weather it could have ever asked for.
I was glad to finally get a chance to cover the Mondello practice, which is held once a month at Mondello Circuit. Each time it had been on so far I couldn’t make it due to some nonsense in hospital but seems how everything was getting better, it was good to get out and start covering again! The day definitely lived up to my expectations. Everybody from all different levels of skill had the chance to hit the track and hone their skills.

Having organised a last-minute fund raiser in aid of the Irish Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal, Wexican Motorsport are proud to announce that the effort was more than worth it, having raised more than double the original target they had set out.

This is just one of those cars. A car you either love or hate at first glance. The Altezza itself was marketed in Europe as a Luxury car that we all know as the Lexus is200 or 300. This car was targeted at business men and people who wanted a luxury style car but with the reliability of a Toyota. The same went for the Altezza which was Italian for “highness” in Japan. This car was a sport luxury car which was supposed to attract a more upper class type of customer. A car to go up against Mercedes and BMW. More>>>
These days in Ireland Altezzas are as common as piss. There are so many around that have the same look. Not a lot of people have ventured into trying to do something different.
This car is definitely a love/ hate situation, there will be many people who will hate how this is covered in giraffe/ leopard print and others will think its unique and kind of cool.
Personally i think its pretty fucking cool. Its different and it stands and doesn’t really take from the car or look tacky. What you think?
