I love the other side of the Irish car culture, the lads that came before us, before the influx of Japanese cars on the Emerald Isle.
I always try to make sure I make my way to New Ross every July to check out Bolands Ford gathering. Long before the black hole of Japanese cars, I was obsessed with Sierra and Escort Cosworths; these cars will always have a special place in my heart.

I try to make it to this meet every year as it brings the most interesting cars out of the woodwork. This has been an annual event at Ford Bolands in New Ross Co Wexford and it always reminds me of the vibrant car scene which we aren’t exposed to as much due to most of our friends being in such a “JDM” specific bubble. Before the love for Japanese cars, I loved Fords and whatever was local around us so I’m always happy to see what’s on display at non-Japanese car events.
Sometimes we tend to forget just how rich this country is with car culture. I mostly spend my time these days around Japanese metal, but that wasn’t always the case. Before the Internet and instant access to basically whatever we want, the cars you were into were the cars that you would see or hear of from friends or in magazines or on the street in front of you.
If there is one thing I have learned over the years is that Ireland has such a deep rooted car following. In your family or group of friends someone has an interest in cars whether it be an uncle brother or friend, who has either had something over the years or still has a piece of metal with four wheels they hold close to their hearts. The thing about the Irish car scene is most of the time it is hidden, any car action you come across is usually surface level car enthusiasts who drive the streets at night and park up at McDonalds, do a couple of laps of the city and head home.
So its that time again where we take a look at what you drive to the shows, this gives a good look into whats going on out there and usually you end up finding some cool stuff which you wouldn’t see inside a show itself.
How can you hate on this shit? The best way to spend money if you run a skate shoe company!
I dunno what you think about this? Its old news to everyone else but im not the biggest ken block follower so i didn’t know he had picked up a fiesta to the Subaru.Seems Subaru had withdrawn from wrc and ford stepped in to take its place for Ken. Fiestas will always be fiestas regardless of them re selling on American shores. Im a bit hesitant to like this car, it looks fucking nuts as usual but its still a ford fiesta and i guess for people on this side of the pond there will always be a different image in our heads when we hear ford fiesta which will be this:
Besides the rs that’s what many people flash to in their heads when they hear Ford Fiesta…..Delicious.
