Dressed in Pearl

hips15
Everyday for at least two years I walked past this shining pearl. It lived right around the corner from me. Over the years around where I live there has been some really good cars. The first jzx100 I ever laid eyes on lived across from the local shop. A metallic navy sileighty on Te37s slammed, right on the way to college. These were some serious cars hiding amongst the normal streets. These were times before anyone was really even importing cars from the rising sun. One day when I was coming home this shiny new Silvia appeared. I thought it was here for a visit but then each day it was there in the same place when I was coming home. The Silvia would lurk in between Ibiza’s, Cordoba’s, Polo’s, Daewoo’s, the usual suburban family wagons parked one after another from one end of the street to the next.

Its weird seems I live so close to town I walk everywhere or take my bike or whatever so no matter what I would see this car everyday. It was always shining, always looking its best which is exactly what it was good at. When this car was someone’s pride and joy in Japan it seems they built the s15 just to look its best. From the pearl paint to its clean look, right down to the chrome wheels. This car was a looker.

When you talked to people about this Pearl Silvia people had a love/hate feel for it. To me this is a good thing. This car attracted so much attention as it was ahead of its time in our country. With shitty roads. muck, rust and Max Power magazines.Where was the bad spoiler? The shopping list on the door? The gigantic drift stickers? Nowhere.  This clean s15 stuck out like a sore thumb and I enjoyed every inch of it. Candy for the eyes against a back drop of generic commute machines.

The Hipposleek front bumper compliments the shape of the s15 adding a subtle but aggressive look to the car. Usually clear Led indicators would look tacky on but not here. They seem to fit in perfectly with the flash look this car had.

The chrome on white combo worked so well with the Rare Grenade gx  – 01 17×9 wheels which aren’t made anymore. It made this car turn heads everywhere it went. It may have been for good and bad reasons, but Im sure it attracted a lot of attention of the same type of attention in Japan also.

A company which prides itself on building top V.I.P parts in Japan, this fabulous wheel fits the cockpit of the s-chassis perfectly keeping with its limited colour theme.

hips18

The cockpit is kept functional and very clean. The blue, black and silver colour them looks well throughout. The cockpit includes goodies like a Blitz Dual – SBC Boost controller, a Pivot Turbo timer, a C’s short shifter, a Blitz black light boost gauge and a Bride Brix II Reclinable seat for comfort. The odd blue seat looks well in such a cleanly modified car.

The rear has been de – badged and flushed to keep with the simple look of the exterior. These cars look amazing without spoilers when done right. This is a perfect example of a nice s15 rear kept very clean and simple with a non flashy but good looking origin lab stream line bumper with a Kakimoto exhaust system poking out the left. For rear lights, some d-max leds were put in place.

The skirts which tie this mixed kit together are D-max type 1 aero side skirts meeting to a set of Supermade 30mm front fenders. A set of 20mm spacers bring the front wheels out to meet to give the front a more aggressive stance.

Nothing crazy has been done engine wise. This car was built with cruising in mind more then power. The engine bay looks well and some features to note are the Greddy oil filter relocation kit, the HKS supermega flow induction kit, and an Autobahn Front mounted intercooler with polished piping surrounding the sr20 which was controlled with the help of an Exedy single plate racing clutch.

This car had a host of Cusco handling goodies like Cusco tie rods, Cusco rear upper arms, Cusco fully adjustable coilovers and a Cusco 2way diff.  Seeing it everyday lurking from behind the mud, shit and diesel which surrounded it on the street was a cool sight. It had chrome wheels which didn’t look tacky, it was very simple and was wrapped in a custom Toyota pearl paint job which pulled it all together. No stickers, no crazy carbon fiber. Just a tasty looking s15 which attracted a lot of attention.

Its a shame the car was crashed, but shit happens and Im glad I got some photos while it was still in action. Another fine example of a nice Japanese Nissan which hit out shores over the last few years with some tasty modifications.
