Strictly Business

This car is awesome…. The Toyota popped up once or twice over the years since it was imported in various magazines and forums and I had always wanted to see it in the flesh. The car just looks gangster like it’s up to no good… but for all the right reasons. I’ve always been a huge fan of the Jzx90 Cresta… it is considered the more gangster of the x90 collection and when Ireland had its import boom not too many of these were snatched from the auctions. Any that actually made it to Ireland were either stock or had light modifications. This one is loaded with goodies, and for a good reason, a nice properly used pimp machine.

The exterior of the Cresta is pretty simple, but in a good way. The car has been fitted with a Car Make T&E Vertex Aero body kit. The windows have also been tinted to add a seedier look to the cars already gangster appearance. A nice flare to the front and rear arches add a little extra aggression to the already enjoyable exterior.

The mystery too many of the cars that have landed in this country is always something that can get you excited… One look at the Goodline logo on the bonnet and I was suddenly creating scenarios for this car and reasons why it was built. “This was definitely the car the Goodline crew built to go cruising around the city and pick up females!!!!” Or this was the bosses classy drift slag and gangster mobile…for picking up chicks and creeping around the city… “It goes on and on…

Sadly Goodline appear to be a now defunct company… famous for adding nice aero to the 86 world, I may never know the reason or story behind this car… but in a way that’s kind of awesome. One thing is for sure it’s simply amazing to look at.. The seedy colour, wheel choice and semi slag drift look, a perfect combination. This is certainly no show car, a quick lift of the bonnet will quickly make you aware of this Crestas potential power.

The classic Bride setup…. it never gets old no matter how many times you look at it… The car is a comfort machine. The full interior remains, which in a Cresta would seem like the natural choice.

Through the window you can see a Nardi Classic finished in black with a red stitching and a set of JZX100 clocks.

The Cresta drips of HKS goodies… I was very impressed by the HKS Gauge setup…. the polished finish added to the cars overall above standard theme… Everywhere you looked you can find something HKS!

Under the bonnet lurks a very lively 1JZ… A few mods to note would be the Sard 650cc injectors, or the Kazama Auto engine and transmission mounts, short shifter and gearstick. The car also has a 32 GTR fuel pump, Ive always loved how the Japanese make anything work from any car platform.. The engine is controlled by a Sard ECU.

A few other things to talk about would be the HKS catalogue of goodies including a GT 2835 Turbo Pro, 2 into 1 Manifold adapter, Turbo Heat shield, Intercooler, Hi Cams 264 In/ex, High power Exhaust System, Oil Cooler and filter Relocation Kit and much more…

I’ve always had a HKS fetish…. I blame video games…. but it must be nice to have this much lurking everywhere you look.. Especially in a JZX90 Cresta… a pretty rare sight in this country or for that matter this part of the world.

I’ve always been a big fan of the Intensive Hulk wheels…. These wheels have been used for years in pretty much any Car Make T & E Vertex catalogue. The wheels really suit the theme of the car.

The car has an overall seediness to it but I love the fact it has the power to play and the parts to go with it.  This car really is a proper slice of Japanese car culture… unmolested!

This car has seen some serious track time I’d imagine… the custom boot braces which have been welded in for added stiffness and rigidity, or the custom DIY diff oil setup. A Nice Advan SA3R spare wheel lurks in the back behind the fuel tank.

The front end looks like it’s in a bad mood with the headlight eye brows! A pretty awesome head on view the combination of slag and class is something you don’t see every day… This is most certainly that perfect balance… the one you see in Japan all the time.

The car has a nice collection of under goodies including stage Zero strut braces and front member lower braces. The only real modification since it came in from Japan to the handling would be a set of BC coilovers. The engine pits power top the ground through an ORC Single Plated clutch and the Cresta runs a 3.9 final drive with TRD Hardened Differential Bushings and a TRD LSD.

There is not a whole lot to be said that isn’t already obvious, this is one seriously sexy FR sedan…. and a pretty rare sight in Ireland. It has a HKS catalogue to have fun and the looks to match. The fact it’s a pimp machine but has the “rough around the edges look” makes it even better… I love everything about this JZX90…. It’s another case of Japan doing it so right and leaving us in awe.
