Mikeys Ae86 Addiction

Blog posts have taken a back seat. It seems the blog has died, and now photography feels like it’s under attack due to tik-tok and reels. In a few years, it feels like photography will be utterly pointless on social media as we move towards a more on-the-fly video type of consumption. Regardless, I love shooting photos and have always enjoyed documenting friends’ cars and such.

I feel I get a lot less time shooting the videos these days, but I enjoyed this shoot with Mikey’s car, the weather took a turn for the worst, but it worked out in our favour. The moody backdrop of the Dublin mountains and Mikey’s car were a match made in heaven,

Sadly we couldn’t get any shots of his black car, which you might have seen from the video was also my old shell. The same can be said for the rest of his cars. The weather got terrible and dark as usual in the middle of an Irish winter. I hope you enjoy this photo set regardless of our recent video.

For anyone wondering, Mikey has 14×9 – 19 Watanabe R types, Goodline Bumper, and TBO hood. His car is an 86, so it is right on the turning point from Kouki to Zenki. The Levin has a Jblood rear wing which looks incredible, a standard 4A-GE, standard gearbox, bolt-in cage and a selection of old Omori gauges. It’s such a great little package that has served him well. I hope you enjoy the rest of these photos.

That perfect rear end, white lines and white paint are an ideal combo.

I think there’s always going to be a place for photography. Sure, video does capture an environment, but a picture to me holds more value. TikTok and it’s clones will come and go, like all fads do, and people will move on to the next thing.

Videos aren’t displayed and revered in the same way photos are.

Always love blog posts, so much nicer to have an actual written story rather than something that is meant to suck you in for 15 seconds.

    Great photos as always Neil!

Blogs and photography are becoming more and more niche, but they’ll never die. I’d say there’s a good chance people (the mainstream grazers) will get tired of the popcorn-style reels and tiktoks and drift back towards stuff with a bit more substance like the Youtube vids and the posts here.

Either way, there’ll always be people trawling through sites like this to scratch that itch for detail/information on cars and to get a proper idea of what people are doing with their cars. If they’re still printing magazines, there’s nothing to worry about just yet 🙂

Always appreciate the kind words, and people who show up to the blog, the words are a little scarce these days but id love to put more effort into keeping this alive.

I agree 100%, there’s something enjoyable about looking at photos that video and high speed content hasn’t replaced. Maybe I’m just getting old!
