A Canadian SR5 Corolla AE86 comes to Ireland

This day was something Gerry had spoken about for years. Over fires in his backyard in Canada, drinking a couple of beers, we would chat about bringing home a Canadian AE86 just because they didn’t exist in Ireland. This country is obsessed with the chassis. Bringing home a bone stock SR5 would instantly make it one of the rarest examples in Ireland, it would stand out for being stock and different. It was always a pipe dream, something we would throw back and forth, but I never thought Gerry would bother. I figured it would have been too much hassle to make it happen.

Eventually, I moved back to Ireland, and Gerry and his wife Donna stayed on for a few more years. When they told me the move back to Ireland was coming soon, Gerry told me he had found this one owner SR5 he had been slowly restoring, and because of the bond created with this car, through making friends with the seller, he felt this was the right one to bring home, and the plan was back in motion. Im sure you have seen the video on this car by now.

Gerry had lived in Canada for over ten years, so in that time, they had accumulated a lot of possessions they didn’t want to part with. It was the perfect excuse to rent a 40-foot container and bring home not just this lovely SR5 but a brand new GT86 / BRZ they had purchased just a few months previous. I had taken the day off of work to help. Watching the doors open and seeing this car spring to life is something ill never forget.

I love the scenarios we get ourselves into with cars, and Gerry made the fantasy a reality, a bone stock 4AC powered SR5, paired with his insane full resto-mod 2 Door Levin. What a combo! We will have to follow up on this car over the next year.

I love seeing people bringing their cars with them; I want to keep my yoke as long as I can keep it alive no matter where I end up so it’s a huge boost of confidence to see people doing exactly that
